Website Accessibility Compliance Guide

Recent federal accessibility updates mean county websites are expected to meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards. In practical terms, this means your website content must be usable for people with disabilities, including those who rely on screen readers and other assistive technology.

We have prepared a web accessibility compliance guide designed to help you take clear, manageable steps toward compliance on your county website by focusing on common, high-impact actions, such as adding alt text and ensuring documents are readable. This guide also includes a high-level checklist to help you work through your compliance tasks.

We are sharing this information to help raise awareness of this federal requirement. While CTAS is unable to provide technical implementation services, we recommend consulting with the U.S. Department of Justice or your county attorney for specific questions about requirements or legal obligations.
