John Sutton, MBA, CPA, CPTM, is the CTAS Certified County Finance Officer (CCFO) Program Manager and Instructor and has over 40 years’ experience in local governmental accounting, auditing, and financial reporting.  John joined CTAS in July 2019 and previously he was a Sr. Audit Manager with PUGH CPAs, an RSM McGladrey Alliance Firm, and with another CPA firm both located in Knoxville, TN.  After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University with a BBA and major in accounting, he began his career as a staff auditor with the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury - Division of Local Government Audit.  He received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Tennessee at Martin and has been a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) since 1987.  In 2021 John completed the Certified Professional in Training Management (CPTM) program.  He has extensive experience working with counties, boards of education, cities, utility districts and governmental pension and retirement plans. 

John is a sixth generation East Tennessean and has been married to Cynthia Dockery for over 30 years. Their oldest daughter Savannah is a graduate of University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and their youngest daughter Sophie is attending Austin Peay State University.  John and his family reside in Knox County.
