John Sutton Elected President of AGA East Tennessee Chapter

We’re proud to share that John Sutton, CTAS Certified County Finance Officer (CCFO) Program Manager and Instructor, has been elected president of the AGA (Association of Government Accountants) East Tennessee Chapter for the 2025–2026 term.

John has been an active AGA member since 2015 and most recently served as the chapter’s education director for three years. The AGA East Tennessee Chapter provides monthly opportunities for professional development and networking, connecting professionals in government financial management, auditing, budgeting, education, IT, and HR. AGA has approximately 14,000 members across more than 90 chapters in all 50 states and five U.S. territories.

John brings more than 40 years of experience in local government accounting, auditing, and financial reporting to his leadership role at CTAS. He joined our team in 2019 following a career in public accounting, including his time as a Senior Audit Manager with PUGH CPAs in Knoxville. He began his career as a staff auditor with the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury, Division of Local Government Audit.

A licensed CPA since 1987, John holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Middle Tennessee State University and an MBA from the University of Tennessee at Martin. In 2021, he completed the Certified Professional in Training Management (CPTM) program. John and his wife Cynthia live in Knox County and are proud parents to two daughters, Savannah and Sophie.
