HUD Funding Opportunity: $3 Million for Automated Permitting Systems — Applications Due July 13

News Date

On behalf of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), we're sharing information about a new funding opportunity that may be of interest to your county.

HUD's Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R) has announced up to $3 million in funding for jurisdictions that will deploy automated building code permitting systems. Selected jurisdictions will partner with HUD to evaluate the applicability and effectiveness of these systems under real-world operating conditions.

What the demonstration aims to do:

Through this initiative, HUD seeks to accelerate digital adoption in willing jurisdictions, gather operational data on performance and implementation challenges, and develop practical guidance for permitting offices considering similar investments. Participating jurisdictions will track core metrics — including permit timelines, revision cycles, and review outcomes — before and after implementation, with findings intended to inform future state and local policy and permitting modernization efforts nationwide.
