2026 County Board of Equalization Training Now Available

News Date

The Comptroller of the Treasury's Office has announced that the 2026 County Board of Equalization training materials are now available. County board members are encouraged to complete their training as soon as possible, with certificates due to the Comptroller's Office by May 29th.

Accessing the Training

The training video and all supplemental materials are published on the Comptroller's website, and the main video can also be viewed directly on YouTube. The main video satisfies the annual training requirement. Please note that all materials are provided digitally; any physical copies will need to be printed locally.

Supplemental reference materials are available on the website for board members to review during or after the training. Board members are particularly encouraged to review the Sample Appeal Record Template (Item #3), which reinforces key concepts and helps streamline the hearing process. The Comptroller's Office has also expanded its library of short skits illustrating common situations county boards may encounter, which can be found here.

Completing the Training Certificate

Beyond viewing the main video, the only remaining requirement is completion of the 2026 Training Certificate of Completion, which should be returned to Matthew Childress at Matthew.Childress@cot.tn.gov as soon as board members have finished the training — by May 29th, if possible.

A Note on Outside Training Materials

Under Tenn. Code Ann. § 67-1-403(e)(4), associations or organizations may develop their own training curriculum, but any such materials must be submitted to the Comptroller of the Treasury for review and approval before use. Submissions can be sent to sb.web@cot.tn.gov.
