Declare the County Jail a Workhouse

WHEREAS, it is in the interest of County that county prisoners be treated as workhouse prisoners under state law; and,
WHEREAS, the Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 41-2-102, authorizes county legislative bodies to declare the county jail a workhouse, if such jail be of sufficient capacity and is suitable for such purpose, and
WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the county legislative body of County that the county jail has sufficient capacity and is suitable for the purpose of serving as a county workhouse, and
WHEREAS, whenever the jail in any county has been declared a workhouse as provided in Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 41-2-102, and other options are not pursued, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 41-2-108, provides that the sheriff shall be ex officio superintendent of the workhouse,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the county legislative body of
County, Tennessee, meeting in session at , Tennessee that the county jail of ___ County is declared a county workhouse effective , and that a five member board of workhouse commissioners be established consisting of four persons elected by the county legislative body and the county executive in accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 41-2-104.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the sheriff shall serve as superintendent of the county workhouse as provided by Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 41-2-108.
