Commissioner Training Requirements

County Commissioners elected or appointed after April 12, 2018 are required to complete orientation training and seven hours of continuing education every year.
 
Commissioners elected or appointed in 2018 (from April 12, 2018 – May 1, 2019) should have completed an orientation training and 21 hours of continuing education by August 31, 2021. Hours are reported to the Comptroller and posted on their website. The next scheduled report to the Comptroller will be posted by September 1, 2021. Commissioners have 90 days to complete training.
 
Important things to know:
  • Anyone can complete their past due hours before August 31, 2021 and be listed as complete on the Comptroller’s website.
  • You must complete an orientation training and 21 hours to be complete by August 31, 2021.
  • The September 2021 report is the last report that will be printed prior to the 2022 election.
  • If you need to know how many hours you have, please contact CTAS at ctas.support@tennessee.edu.
The annual continuing education requirement can be met in various ways, including attending educational sessions at TCSA conferences and TCCA regional meetings, attending CTAS training classes, completing online training provided by CTAS, and attending other professional development approved by CTAS.
  • Commissioners appointed or elected between May 1, 2019 and May 1, 2020 must complete an orientation training and 14 hours before September 1, 2021.
  • Commissioners appointed or elected between May 1, 2020 and May 1, 2021 must complete an orientation training and 7 hours before September 1, 2021.
  • Commissioners appointed or elected between May 1, 2021 and May 1, 2022 must complete an  orientation training and 7 hours before September 1, 2022.
