Delinquency Date

Property taxes collected by the trustee are delinquent on the first day of March following the tax due date. For instance, 2010 taxes are due and payable on the first Monday in October of 2010 and delinquent on March 1, 2011.1Special provisions may apply to persons in military service under the Soldier’s and Sailor’s Civil Relief Act as well as under state law.2Special interest rates may also apply when the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation owes the property taxes under 12 U.S.C.A. 1825(b)(3).  The trustee is required to accept delinquent taxes, and at the same time collect penalties and interest, until the time the taxes are turned over to the delinquent tax attorney for collection.3
